British-made womenswear brand Cara & The Sky is going beyond its knitwear base, adding a new collection of small-batch dresses “inspired by modern Bohemia”.
The female-founded label, which markets itself as having “joyful approach to dressing”, has just launched its debut summer dress collection with two key silhouettes that comes in multiple colours and prints.
The two Ruby and Maisie styles feature “vintage-inspired prints, statement collars, relaxed silhouettes, hidden pockets and tactile cotton blend fabrics”.
As mentioned, the products are both designed and made in the UK with each Dres seeing produced in small batches using a curated mix of deadstock and specially sourced fabrics.
Maisie is a tiered sleeveless maxi dress in florals, retailing at £129, while Ruby is a ballon-selves mini smock-style with statement collar for £95.
The brand isn’t new to the dress market but has previously restricted its dresses to its core knitwear category.
It was founded in 2019 by former fashion buyer Cara Granger, who said she couldn’t find the kind of colourful knitwear she wanted to wear at a time when the high street was dominated by neutral, minimalist styles.
Granger said of the new dress move: “I’ve always believed getting dressed should make you happy.
“Cara & The Sky has never just been about colourful clothes. It’s about creating pieces that make you smile the moment you put them on.
“These dresses were designed at a time when I had fallen out of love with summer dressing. My body had changed and suddenly every dress in my wardrobe either no longer fitted, or no longer felt like me. I couldn’t find anything on the high street that felt right, that gave me the same happiness and confidence as my knitwear did, so I designed my own. Relaxed but not shapeless, feminine but with attitude. For the modern dreamer who has her feet firmly on the ground. And most importantly dresses that make you feel you.
“Every decision, from the fit and fabrics to the prints, pockets and finishing touches, was about creating dresses that felt like they have been designed just for you, but versatile enough that they will be pieces people reach for year after year.”
