International Flavors & Fragrances has launched ‘Sensora’ as a new fragrance technology to extend the life of fabric care scents for up to 20 days after activation in response to consumer feedback.
The business describes Sensora as a “pro-fragrance mechanism engineered to unlock complex olfactive dimensions over time.” The fragrance activation is triggered by both indoor and outdoor light, which facilitates a phased release of scent from storage through wear.
“With Sensora, we are advancing fragrance performance into a new territory- one where scent continues to reveal itself in real life, long after the first moment of use,” said IFF Scent’s president Ana Paula Mendonça in a press release. “By combining pro-fragrance science with our deep expertise in fragrance design, we are creating more enduring, more meaningful experiences that bring consumers joy.”
The technology has been designed to ameliorate the performance of fabric care products, specifically for liquid detergents. The results of IFF Scent’s survey, conducted in 17 countries this year, showed a notable desire for laundry fragrance to last longer, according to the business. The technology is also intended to be scalable to promote future innovation.
“Sensora represents a step-change in how we design fragrance performance,” said IFF Scent’s vice president of innovation Mohammed Ashour. “Its light-activated pro-fragrance mechanism gives perfumers a new level of control to orchestrate how scent evolves, revealing new olfactive facets over time while providing a scalable platform for innovation across applications and categories.”
