Deloitte projects US holiday spending to reach $1.7 trillion this year, up around 4 per cent to 4.8 per cent year on year. However, the webinar will focus on the caution beneath the headline growth, as tariff-driven cost pressure affects margins, and uncertainty around a possible holiday-season government shutdown weighs on lower-income households.
Fibre2Fashion’s October 22 webinar will examine how US retailers are navigating a holiday season marked by higher spending but more cautious shoppers.
Experts will discuss pricing, promotions, margins, tariff exposure and inventory risk, offering practical lessons for merchandising, planning, buying, e-commerce and supply-chain teams this year.
The discussion will examine whether retailers are pricing and promoting appropriately for a more value-conscious consumer, while also addressing what the organisers describe as “The Inventory Gamble”—the challenge of buying for the holiday season in a tariff-inflated market. Panellists will discuss how planning teams approached quantities and price points, how they managed tariff exposure, and how retailers are balancing the risk of over- and under-stocking.
The session will be hosted by Mark Jarvis, Chief Strategy Officer at Fibre2Fashion. He has previously spent 18 years as Managing Director of WTiN.
He will be joined by Neil Saunders, Managing Director of Retail at GlobalData, who advises retail clients globally on shopper behaviour, market trends and business strategy, and Brian Mulberry, Chief Market Strategist at Zacks Investment Management, who brings around 25 years of investment-management experience.
The webinar is aimed at merchandising, planning, buying, pricing and e-commerce leaders in retail and apparel, as well as supply-chain and operations teams. Key takeaways will include a realistic assessment of cautious consumer behaviour, approaches to balancing price, promotion and margin, and lessons on inventory planning and tariff exposure that can inform future buying decisions.
