“Can we at least talk about why you want to kill me?” Vertical has revealed their first teaser trailer for the legacy sequel Lords of War, a long-awaited follow-up to the Nicolas Cage cult classic film Lord of War. A full 22 years later! Lord of War is a very dark comedy weapons thriller about Nicolas Cage starring as the notorious arms dealer Yuri Orlov, first released in 2005. They also got writer / director Andrew Niccol back again, but instead of calling it Lord of War 2 they’re calling it Lords of War. For a reason. Orlov is back and soon discovers that a ruthless mercenary is bent on destroying his legacy, thrusting them into a blood-soaked and bullet-riddled battle to the death. Turns out that this mercenary is actually his son Anton. He’s trying to outdo his dad by raising an army of mercenaries to fight in America’s Middle Eastern conflicts, triggering a father-son rivalry. Featuring Cage and Bill Skarsgård as father and son; along with Sylvia Hoeks, Laura Harrier, Georgina Beedle, Greg Tarzan Davis, Rafael Morais, and Max Kraus. So far so good, not a ton of footage to see yet but I’m intrigued. Looks like it’ll be vicious & still a dark comedy.
Here’s the first look teaser trailer for Andrew Niccol’s sequel Lords of War, direct from YouTube:

Lords of War picks up with the world’s most notorious arms dealer — based partly on the notorious real-life criminal Viktor Bout — years after his fateful deal with the Sierra Leonean militia in Africa. His legacy is suddenly jeopardized by a mercenary mastermind whom he discovers is his son Anton and is building a massive private army. With both competing for power, influence, even the same woman, they’re drawn into a bloody battle to the death, where ambition & betrayal fuel their relationship as bitter rivals rather than family. Lords of War is once again written and directed by the New Zealand-born filmmaker Andrew Niccol, director of the films Gattaca, S1m0ne, Lord of War, In Time, The Host, Good Kill, Anon, and this year’s I, Object film previously. Produced by Nicolas Cage, Karim Debbagh, Fabrice Gianfermi, Andrew Niccol, Philippe Rousselet, Alain-Gilles Viellevoye. This hasn’t premiered at any festivals or elsewhere yet. Vertical debuts Niccol’s Lords of War movie in US theaters starting January 22nd, 2027. Look any good?
