“I’ll look at the silver screen’s emotional highs and ask ‘why do they sound that way?'” Huh? Netflix & BBC have revealed official trailers for the return of the comedy icon Philomena Cunk in a new comedy special called Cunk on Cinema. British actress / comedian Diane Morgan returns to stars as the journalist maven Philomena Cunk in a new mini-series exploring cinema’s history and current shenanigans, featuring writing lead by “Black Mirror’s” Charlie Brooker. Morgan is known for her deadpan portrayal of Philomena Cunk, an earnest but stupid interviewer and commentator on history, culture and current affairs. She has made many of these before including Cunk on Shakespeare and Cunk on Christmas. This time, Cunk explores the history of film, from early cameras and the 1960s New Wave to CGI and artificial intelligence. She puts her questions to 23 experts, including Michael Bay (director of Bad Boys, The Rock, Transformers), the multi-award winning actor Benedict Cumberbatch (The Imitation Game, Sherlock), Oscar-nominated composer Daniel Pemberton (Project Hail Mary, Into the Spider-Verse), Steven E. de Souza (screenwriter Die Hard, Commando), and many other guests. This looks like it’ll be hilarious. Pop some popcorn & tune in this fall.
Here’s the official trailers (+ poster) for BBC’s comedy special Cunk on Cinema, direct from YouTube:

Diane Morgan returns as Philomena Cunk in a new series from Charlie Brooker. Billed as Cunk’s most glamorous outing yet, she charts the history of cinema, from the invention of the camera & the New Wave filmmakers of the 1960s right up to the entrance of CGI and what the future of AI holds. Cunk will attempt to demystify it all while sitting in lumpy seats with stale popcorn, asking herself where did cinema come from? And why? What does it want? And why can’t it tell us? Cunk on Cinema is a comedy special mini-series created and written by Charlie Brooker (creator of “Black Mirror”) and Diane Morgan. All the episodes from Cunk on Cinema are directed by Al Campbell. With writing by Ben Caudell, Erika Ehler, Eli Goldstone, Jason Hazeley, Dan Maier, Diane Morgan, Joel Morris, Michael Odewale, Kali Varghese, & Sam Ward. A Pacesetter Production for BBC iPlayer & BBC Two. Executive produced by Charlie Brooker, Jessica Rhoades, Diane Morgan, Sam Ward. Netflix debuts Cunk on Cinema in the US streaming on Netflix starting November 15th, 2026 this fall. It’s out in the UK on BBC iPlayer on November 12th. Look like a fun time?
