Sportswear manufacturer Adidas has sold four times as many football shirts during the current World Cup as it did at the previous tournament. Ball sales have also doubled, the DAX-listed company said over the weekend in response to a Bloomberg News enquiry.
Adidas now expects World Cup-related sales to total around €1.5 billion, CEO Björn Gulden said in a statement. This is at the upper end of the previously targeted range. The figure also includes World Cup-themed casualwear.
A total of 14 teams played in Adidas kits. Mexico’s shirts were the best sellers, the company reported. Spain and Argentina faced each other in the final, both in Adidas shirts, as were the referees.
