AI-and tech-powered hospitality operator Bob W has signed a lease for a new 95-unit aparthotel in Gżira, marking its entry into Malta as it continues to expand across Southern Europe.
The purpose-built property, to be developed by Ciantar Developments, will operate as Bob W Malta Central and is expected to open in Q3 2028.
Spanning approximately 4,000 sqm, the aparthotel will comprise 85 one-bedroom apartments, nine two-bedroom apartments and one three-bedroom apartment, catering to both short and extended stays.
Guests will have access to a gym, sauna and swimming pool, alongside a restaurant and rooftop terrace operated by a third party.
Located in Gżira, which looks across Marsamxett Harbour towards Valletta, the development sits close to Manoel Island, home to an 18th-century fortress, and Sliema’s coastal promenade. The property is also near the University of Malta, with access to the main road connecting Malta International Airport, Valletta and St Julian’s.
Under the lease agreement, Ciantar Developments will deliver a building designed around Bob W’s brand standards and operational requirements. The ground-up development demonstrates the operator’s ability to work with partners on purpose-built hospitality assets, alongside its growing pipeline of office and hotel conversions across Europe.
Renato Sciannimanico, Real Estate Director for Southern Europe at Bob W, said: “Malta is a natural next step for Bob W as we continue to expand across Southern Europe. We’re seeing real potential in destinations that attract visitors beyond the peak summer season, and Malta is a great example of that. It also gives us the opportunity to adapt our offering to the location, with facilities such as a swimming pool and sauna.
“Working with Ciantar Developments from the outset means we can help shape the building around how we operate and what our guests need. With further growth across markets such as Italy, we’re continuing to explore opportunities for both purpose-built developments and the conversion of existing buildings.”
Darren Ciantar, CEO of Ciantar Developments, part of Ciantar Group said: “We’re excited to bring Bob W to Malta and to be part of the brand’s continued European expansion. Gżira is an ideal location for a hospitality development of this kind, with its mix of business, leisure and longer-stay demand.
“Bob W brings a fresh approach to hospitality, combining thoughtful design with technology and operational expertise. We’re looking forward to delivering a purpose-built property that reflects those strengths and makes a positive addition to Gżira’s hospitality offering.”
The signing comes amid continued growth for Bob W. The company reports a 34% year-on-year increase in new keys opened in 2026, while deal signings have reached 1.5 times the number recorded in 2025.
Bob W currently operates in 12 countries, with its contracted footprint expected to reach at least 18 by the end of 2028. Growth is planned across Southern Europe, alongside further expansion in the UK, Nordics and DACH.
