This Halloween, “Sesame Street‘s” beloved furry red monster is trading crayons for couture.
In a somewhat unexpected cultural crossover, Elmo for Halloween 2026 is dressing as fashion magazine editor-in-chief-from-hell Miranda Priestly, archly portrayed in the “The Devil Wears Prada” movies by Oscar-winner Meryl Streep.
“Guess who Elmo is?” he says in a video released by “Sesame Street,” before revealing his Miranda Priestly look.
In the video, a sentient pumpkin strolls in front of Elmo, prompting him to crack in character as Priestly: “Pumpkins. For fall. How groundbreaking.” Then Cookie Monster appears, prompting Elmo to snark about Cookie’s blue fur color: “Well, it’s not cerulean. But, it works.” To which Cookie Monster responds: “Uh, thanks? Me think?”
Watch the video below — which will certainly fly right over the heads of Elmo’s preschool fans.
In years past, Elmo in different “Sesame Street” segments has dressed for Halloween as a spaceman known as “Galactic Stan,” as well as a pirate and a witch. Meanwhile, Elmo himself continues to be a popular Halloween costume selection for kids and adults alike.
Streep starred in the original 2006 “The Devil Wear’s Prada” movie alongside Anne Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci. The movie is based on the novel of the same name by Lauren Weisberger, who once worked at Vogue and modeled the Miranda character on real-life fashion editor Anna Wintour. The quartet of actors reprised their characters in this year’s sequel, “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” from 20th Century Studios.
