There were several questions for Expedia Group officials during its second quarter earnings call Wednesday about competition in the B2B space, where it is the leading player, as Booking Holdings gears up to consolidate its fragmented, 3-brand offering.
What’s clear from Expedia’s second quarter announcement, which saw its B2B unit’s revenue jump 23% year-over-year, is that it is continuing to invest to transition the product from predominantly a hotel offering to one that includes experiences, ground transport, flights, and trip protection.
The goal, according to CEO Ariane Gorin, is to turn the company’s B2B offering into a “one-stop shop” for travel. The unit still predominantly provides hotels to its 75,000 partners — and that’s an under-appreciated fact.
