From semi-transparent Game Boys to the see-through iMac G3, semi-transparent tech was a hallmark of the late 1990s and early 2000s – and now the viral Camp Snap screen-free camera is all-in on the Y2K look.
The Camp Snap 2 only just launched in June of 2026, but the camera already has a fresh new color inspired by Y2K tech: Cosmic Grape. The new color is a semi-transparent but purple-drenched look for the affordable point-and-shoot camera.
The new purple design isn’t the first transparent color to come to the Camp Snap – when the Camp Snap 2 launched, it did so with a handful of “Jelly Edition” colors. Cosmic Grape brings the clear Y2K aesthetic to five different options, in addition to the solid-body versions.

The Y2K look is fitting for the Camp Snap 2, an affordable point-and-shoot that is fully digital, yet lacks a screen. While the Camp Snap 2 is a digital camera, the lack of a screen makes it feel more like film without the ability to view the photos right away.
That – and the camera’s lower 8MP resolution – makes a look inspired by the turn of the millennium appropriate. In the early 2000s, digital photography was just becoming more mainstream, so the Y2K inspiration feels wildly appropriate for the Camp Snap 2.
While Camp Snap originally started as a way for kids to take cameras to screen-free summer camps, the camera was quickly adapted by digital minimalists who didn’t want the distraction of a screen without going as retro as a film camera.
The Camp Snap 2 feels far more grown-up, with built-in filter swaps and a faster shutter button. I’ve tried both the older Camp Snaps as well as the Camp Snap 2 and the CS-Pro. The 16MP CS-Pro is my personal favorite for grown-ups with its retro design, higher resolution, and more powerful flash, but the Camp Snap 2 leans more towards that disposable film camera vibe and comes in at a lower price point.
