Peacock has released the official trailer for “Dig,” an upcoming comedy series created by Amy Poehler and Michael Schur (“Parks and Recreation” and “The Good Place”). Screenwriter J. J. Philbin, Schur’s wife, is listed as writer and producer.
The ten-episode series, based on the 2023 novel Excavations by Kate Myers, follows four women researchers working at a remote archaeological site in Greece. The expedition takes unexpected turn when the quartet unearths a priceless artifact, one that should not exist.
According to the show’s logline, “When the team uncovers a long-buried secret with the potential to rewrite history, they find themselves at the center of a high-stakes international conspiracy.”
Poehler stars as Elise, the group’s star excavator, who enlists the other three in a scheme to hide their discovery from Neville (Hugh Laurie), the dig’s self-serving head archaeologist, and take credit for it themselves. Embarking on a literal coverup, they quickly find themselves in over their heads.
Geraldine Viswanathan (“Bad Education”) plays Dylan, who has returned to the dig after a five-year absence; Fina Strazza (“Paper Girls”) is Patty, Neville’s naïve undergraduate assistant; and Antonia Thomas (“The Good Doctor”) is Clare, the expedition’s arch preservationist.
Appearing in the trailer are recurring characters Lambros (Jason Mantzoukas), a local shop owner and sometime looter, and Marcus “M.R.” Robertson Jr. (Brennan Lee Mulligan), a wealthy archaeology buff. Max Greenfield (“New Girl”) will guest star as Andrew, an art dealer, along with Dan Bucatinsky (“Scandal”) as Fritz, a New York City museum director.
“Dig” premiers on Peacock on November 23.
