“Without us, those tunnels are going to fail.” Well Go USA has debuted an official trailer for another war movie called The War Below, this one set during WWI aka The Great War. Marking the feature directorial debut of filmmaker J.P. Watts, who also did the VFX for this, it originally premiered in 2021 and is only now getting an official VOD release. During World War I in Europe, after the tragic disaster at the Somme, the Allies turn to an audacious plan to disturb the front line. A group of civilian tunnelers known as the “Clay Kickers” (this really did exist) is recruited to dig beneath No Man’s Land and plant a massive bomb under German trenches. It was an attempt to break the deadly stalemate of the Battle of Messines. These unlikely heroes hold the fate of millions in their hands in a desperate bid to win the war. Starring Sam Hazeldine, Tom Goodman-Hill, Kris Hitchen, Andrew Scarborough, Anna Maguire, Joseph Steyne, Elliot J. Langridge, Sam Clemmett, Sonny A. Serkis, and Douglas Reith. This film looks like it’s telling an interesting story about a few unexpected heroes of the war and how much they risked to make a difference.
Here’s the new official trailer (+ poster) for J.P. Watts’ movie The War Below, direct from YouTube:
