“Every kid needs someone in their corner.” Time to man up? Apple TV has revealed their official trailer for the movie Way of the Warrior Kid, the latest movie directed by McG and starring Chris Pratt in a very generic “you gotta toughen up!” story about a bullied kid. Apple has this set for a streaming release on Apple TV starting November 25th just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday break. Alas it looks like one movie you can tell your family to skip watching this year. Chris Pratt & Jude Hill star in this coming-of-age drama. One summer to train. A new kind of courage. A self-doubting kid who gets bullied by his schoolmates learns to find his inner warrior with the help of his uncle, an elite Navy SEAL, who uses his SEAL training to guide the boy over the summer. Based on the bestselling novel by former Navy SEAL Jocko Willink. Starring Chris Pratt & Jude Hill, with Linda Cardellini, Jocko Willink, Levi McConaughey, Ava Torres, Darien Sills-Evans, Carl McDowell, Parker Young, & many more. This is clearly trying to be an inspiring and entertaining story for youngsters kind of like Karate Kid, but it comes across much more off-putting and awkward than invigorating. And it’s just about working out? That’s it? Sure, let’s go hit the gym… Who’s in?
Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for McG’s movie Way of the Warrior Kid, direct from YouTube:
Middle school has been a nightmare for Marc (Jude Hill), a good kid who’s bullied by his classmates and feels like he’s behind in everything, from academics to P.E. to just making friends. That changes when his injured Uncle Jake (Chris Pratt), a decorated Navy SEAL, comes to spend the summer and recuperate with Marc and his mom, Sarah (Linda Cardellini). To help Marc defend himself, Jake devises an ambitious program he calls “Operation Warrior Kid” inspired by his SEAL training. Instead of teaching his nephew how to fight, Jake shows Marc what real courage is, facing down his own demons along the way. Way of the Warrior Kid is directed by American producer / filmmaker McG, director of the films Charlie’s Angels, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, We Are Marshall, Terminator Salvation, This Means War, 3 Days to Kill, The Babysitter + The Babysitter: Killer Queen, Rim of the World, Family Switch, Uglies most recently, plus a few episodes of the “Turner & Hooch” & “Lethal Weapon” series. The screenplay is written by Will Staples (Without Remorse, The Right Stuff), based on the novel by former Navy SEAL Jocko Willink. Produced by Skydance Media’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Don Granger, McG, Mary Viola, Chris Pratt, Ben Everard, Jocko Willink, Bruce Wayne Gillies. Apple TV releases McG’s Way of the Warrior Kid movie streaming on Apple TV starting on November 25th, 2026, just in time for Thanksgiving, coming up this fall. Any good?
