EXCLUSIVE: Madison Bailey, star of Netflix’s hit teen drama series Outer Banks, has signed on to star in SoCal, a ’90s noir written and directed by Cameron Van Hoy.
Set in San Diego in the summer of 1999, SoCal follows Ramona (Bailey), a clever and resourceful high school pot dealer hired by the school’s star quarterback to find his missing girlfriend, Ashley Walker. As Ramona digs deeper, she uncovers secrets beneath the picture-perfect suburban surface. What begins as a missing-person investigation soon becomes a romantic web of mystery, lust and murder.
“SoCal is inspired by the reckless abandon of youth, San Diego at the turn of the millennium and noir cinema,” said Van Hoy. “It’s a film about the beauty and the danger of being young, a sun-soaked neo-noir where first love, desire and high school collide.”
SoCal hails from Ardor Pictures, Ferrari Films, Live Nation Studios, Gulfstream Pictures and Luber Roklin Entertainment. Van Hoy is directing from his own script and producing alongside Stacy Kemp Ferrari for Ardor, whose Brendan Petrizzo and James Mahoney are co-producing. Matt Luber and Lena Roklin are producing for Luber Roklin, alongside Stella Bulochnikov and Jolene Rapino for Live Nation, and Mike Karz and Bill Bindley from Gulfstream. Rapino and Ryan Kroft exec produce for Live Nation.
Bailey plays Kie Carrera in Outer Banks, from creators Josh Pate, Jonas Pate and Shannon Burke, which concluded its five-season run in August. Additional credits for the actress include Black Lightning, American Horror Stories and Maintenance Required. She is repped by CAA, Luber Roklin Entertainment, Smith Young Talent Agency and Yorn, Levine, Barnes.
Van Hoy’s credits include the crime thriller Flinch and the upcoming addiction drama The Prince, starring Scott Haze, Nicolas Cage, J.K. Simmons and more. He is repped by Luber Roklin Entertainment.
