Motorola debuted its brand new flagship phone, the Signature 27, at Qualcomm’s annual Snapdragon Summit in September. However, at the time, Motorola unveiled just a few key specs and left much to the imagination. That changed this week, with the company revealing more information about its new phone.
As PetaPixel previously reported, the sleek Signature 27’s main camera is the 50-megapixel Sony Lytia 910, a relatively large Type 1/1.28 LOFIC image sensor. It promises excellent low-light performance, expanded dynamic range, and gorgeous color.
It’s paired with a 200-megapixel Sony Lytia 901 image sensor for the telephoto camera. This is an even bigger sensor, measuring at Type 1/1.12. The periscope telephoto camera has 5x optical zoom and, through AI image processing, can reach 100x equivalent zoom with Super Zoom Pro. As Motorola notes, this uses generative AI to create new pixels. This is similar to other super zoom features seen on competing Android smartphones.

It also has a third standard rear camera: a 50-megapixel ultrawide with a Type 1/2.76 sensor.

However, in an exclusive hands-on video with Motorola, YouTuber creator Danny Winget revealed more details about the Signature 27, including a special sensor on the rear camera module.
Describing the camera system as “insane,” Winget explains that a dedicated “action sensor” on the back of the Signature 27 helps with high-speed photography. It’s not entirely clear what this sensor actually is, but as Winget shows, it looks effective with the camera’s dedicated “action mode.” It’s worth keeping an eye on.
Winget also discussed the Signature 27’s large 6.8-inch display, which is a Tandem OLED that Motorola claims tops out at 12,000 nits, which is absurd. The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra doesn’t even hit 3,000. While 12,000-nit peak brightness will likely be limited to specific situations and only part of the screen, it is still a pretty wild spec.

Tandem OLED display tech recently made news elsewhere in the tech space, as Apple’s brand-new, redesigned touchscreen MacBook Pro also features a new Tandem OLED.
As PetaPixel noted in September, the Signature 27 runs on Qualcomm’s newest Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, features a refined, fashion-forward design, and includes Bang & Olufsen audio.
Motorola is definitely targeting a premium market here, although it’s not known yet just how premium. It’s also still unclear exactly when the Motorola Signature 27 will launch. The company is slow-rolling the reveal. It is expected to fully launch sometime this month, though, so prospective buyers shouldn’t have to wait much longer for all the details.
