“He alone seems to resist the disease.” Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for the new French live-action version of the classic story The Hunchback of Notre Dame, this time adapted into the film titled The Hunchback, Soul of Paris; also Quasimodo, l’âme de Paris in French. Starring French actor Vincent Cassel as the iconic Quasimodo this time. Set in Paris in 1830. As cholera threatens to ravage the city, a hunchback hunted for medical experiments is caught between political turmoil and impossible love. Hunted by the police, he risks everything to save the dancer he has fallen for, inspiring Victor Hugo’s most legendary character. The original story is from Victor Hugo’s 1831 book of the same name, which has been turned into countless movies & series. Most people know the Disney Animation classic The Hunchback of Notre Dame from 1996. This updated version stars Benjamin Voisin, Jean-François Richet (who also directed this movie – and Jason Statham’s Mutiny this year), Daphné Patakia, Karim Leklou, Noémie Lvovsky, and Eugénie Richet as Cosette. France has been re-adapting all of their classic stories, from Les Miserables to The Three Musketeers. This one is up next – heading straight to Netflix to watch later this fall.
